The intersection of borders, artificial intelligence (AI), and law represents a rapidly evolving and complex field. AI technologies are increasingly integrated into border security systems for tasks like surveillance, identification of potential threats, and managing border crossings more efficiently, using tools such as facial recognition and automated passport controls. This integration raises significant legal and ethical issues concerning privacy, data protection, and AI systems’ potential biases and inaccuracies. In the realm of immigration control, AI is becoming more prevalent in these areas, and international laws and standards are being challenged to evolve, ensuring that technological advancements do not compromise human rights and legal accountability. Using AI at borders is not just a matter of security and efficiency but also intersects with humanitarian considerations, particularly in treating refugees and asylum seekers. Thus, the challenge lies in leveraging AI’s capabilities to enhance border management while safeguarding ethical standards and legal compliance.
Based on the above considerations, there is a perceived need for a seminar entitled The 8th INTSOB with the theme “Exploring the Intersection of Law, Borders, and Artificial Intelligence: Navigating the Challenges and Opportunities Beyond“. This event is also as The 1st International Seminar on Bussiness Law Carpe Diem: “Artificial Intelligence Law: Challenge and Opportunities Beyond“.
This International Seminar would become an annual activity of the five Universities. The hosting of the conference shall be done alternatively by the Universitas Pasundan, Geylisim University, Universitas Sangga Buana, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Strauss University of Los Angeles, United States of America, and University of Middle East Turkey.
THE OBJECTIVES
- The general objective of this seminar is to develop international cooperation on the border on Artificial intelligence.
- The specific objective is to explore what strategies to improve institutional strengthening to improve the welfare of local communities to analyze the potential economic, social, and cultural impact of Artificial intelligence.
SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE
Exploring the Intersection of Law, Borders, and Artificial Intelligence: Navigating the Challenges and Opportunities Beyond” delves into the complex relationship between legal frameworks, national boundaries, and the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence (AI). This exploration highlights the unique challenges and opportunities arising at the crossroads of these five domains.
-
- Legal Challenges: Integrating AI into various sectors raises significant legal questions. This includes privacy, data protection, and intellectual property rights. The adaptability of current legal systems to the fast-paced advancements in AI technology is a critical concern.
- Border Considerations: AI’s impact on borders is multifaceted, encompassing physical and digital realms. Physically, AI technologies like automated surveillance and facial recognition systems have implications for border security and immigration control. Digitally, AI transcends geographical boundaries, creating a need for international legal cooperation and cyber governance.
- Ethical and Social Implications: AI poses ethical dilemmas, particularly concerning bias, accountability, and the potential for misuse. These challenges necessitate a discussion on the ethical use of AI, considering the diverse social and cultural contexts across borders.
- Opportunities for Innovation: Despite these challenges, AI offers immense opportunities for legal innovation. It can enhance the efficiency of legal processes and enable more informed decision-making. AI’s ability to process vast amounts of data can aid in complex international legal negotiations and conflict resolution.
- The Need for Global Collaboration: The intersection of law, borders, and AI underlines the importance of global collaboration. Developing international frameworks and standards for
AI use and governance is essential to address the challenges and harness the opportunities presented by AI technologies.
